Vår Energi makes Barents Sea discovery
Norway STAVANGER, February 9, 2023 – Vår Energi has made an oil discovery on Block PL 229 in Norway’s Barents Sea, the company announced on Thursday.
The 7122/8-1S Countach well was drilled to a depth of 2,960 metres and encountered oil between the Realgrunnen and Kobbe formations.
The well was drilled by the Transocean Enabler semi-submersible drillship.
Volumes were not disclosed.
The discovery follows the Lupa discovery in late December 2022, which marked the company’s largest find in 2022.
The 7122/9-1 T2 Lupa well discovered estimated volumes of between 9 bcm (318 bcf) and 21 bcm (742 bcf) of gas.
Vår Energi is the operator of Block PL 229 with 65% shares, with Norwegian NOC Equinor holding the remaining stake.
The company is majority owned by Italian energy giant Eni who holds a 63% share.
